Hello all! Happy 4th of July 🙂 Here is a sneak preview of the book demo Kayla and I have been working on just for you on musichef blog 🙂

US flag jelly shot

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July, last weekend, I made some boozy jelly shots (Cosmopolitan, Gin & Tonic) in the shape of an American flag 🙂

Among a few other food events that happened in the past two weeks, Kayla, Ray (layout/designer) and I have worked together and made a 24pg book demo which we will show to the Chinese publishers this month. Kayla and I aren’t the most design savvy people, we don’t know a thing about page layout nor about book publishing. So it was a daunting task to ‘prettify’ our first demo. For our rough demo we made, we actually went on to youtube to study Adobe Indesign (layout program, youtube really is a great teacher! hehe) 1 first demo
2 demo

from very first rough data to experimenting with Indesign layout program (I wish I had our VERY FIRST ‘orange’ colored demo that we made before all these. In that demo, our heads were propped onto cartoon characters and the whole design looked it was published back in the 80’s, it was cute but too tacky to the point that the image of it still gives me nightmare from time to time. If I find it, I’ll post a picture of it.

Thank goodness our Taiwanese designer friend who works for magazine had some time to help us put together a 24-pg demo book! The kind of personality we were aiming for were friendly, approachable, useful and entertaining – although I was very pleased with how it turned out, I couldn’t help but notice ‘hello-kitty-meets-pokemon-kinda-cutenss’ present throughout the entire demo. (especially the cartoon characters; hehehe) This is just a demo, hopefully the publishers will like it and give us the green light to continue.

Kayla and I used skype to do data research for the restaurants

after a few days… we are finally done with the book demo! 🙂 (sorry Ray and Kayla- for having too many requests and not having a clear picture of the demo in my head, however, I realized 3 heads really are better than one! thank you!!)

Drum rolls – here is our demo – it’s the very first time we are posting them online for our dear musichef readers 🙂 A19x15cm

This time being my first approaching a publisher, I have no idea how they will react. I’m just a bit scared because I heard the publishing a book in China is very different from publishing books anywhere else. Hopefully, the demo will be picked up so that we can finish writing the book and publish it! fingers crossed… Wish us a luck, pray for us 🙂
